- Personal Care Services People who work in this group of occupations improve the physical appearance of others. They provide services such as cutting and coloring their hair, suggesting attractive makeup, doing their nails, or helping them improve their physical fitness.
- Restaurants and Food/Beverage Services People who work in this group of occupations plan and manage events and facilities where people enjoy food and drinks. These tasks may be done in an airplane, a convention center, a hotel, a restaurant, or in any other place where social events are held.
- Sales and Service People who work in this group include Postal Service workers at all levels as well as others who sell transportation service to individuals and companies. The group also includes customs agents and brokers. Workers have direct contact with customers and must provide good customer service.
- Emergency and Fire Management Services People who work in this group protect the public by helping when there are emergencies. Some rescue people who are trapped in a fire, car accident, or natural disaster such as a tornado or flood. Others drive and provide emergency medical care to patients in ambulances or at home before they arrive at a hospital. Still others oversee and manage rescue operations.
- Support Services People who work in this group of occupations focus on making the setting for various health care services as comfortable and pleasant as possible. They provide services that make patients comfortable. They also design and furnish waiting areas and hospital rooms in ways that create a pleasant environment.

- Family and Community Services People who work in this group of occupations work in community agencies to help others who face a variety of problems. Their clients include the homeless, those with physical and mental problems, the aged and poor, and those who are without a job. They attempt to find sources of help for their various needs.
- Professional Support Services People who work in this group of occupations provide a variety of special services in school settings. These individuals help students with personal, physical, and educational problems. Examples of these occupations are school counselors, social workers, psychologists, and speech pathologists.
- Early Childhood Development and Services People who work in this group of occupations take care of children. They lead them in play and in learning activities. They may work in schools, childcare centers, libraries, or private homes.
- Teaching and Training People who work in this group of occupations provide instruction to students at specific grade levels or in specific subjects. In addition to knowing the content of what they teach, they need to know how to work with students. They often need to encourage them to learn and to change their approach to meet individual needs.
- Consumer Services People who work in this group of occupations provide a wide range of services to others. These services may relate to things as different as purchase of real estate, creating a public image for a company, overseeing property, or having text or conversation translated to another language.
